Common Name: Wintergreen Boxwood
Botanical: Buxus microphylla
Leaves: Broadleaf evergreen- Oval
Color: Green all year round.
Mature Size: 3-4 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide.
Growth Habit: Small shrub
Growth Rate: Considered to be a faster grower for boxwood in zones 5-9. The slower rate in zones 5+ than in zone 8 and 9.
Needs: Well-drained soils and good air circulation.
Maintenance: Pruning is suggested to encourage branch development during the year. Once mature, occasional shearing is needed to maintain the desired shape.
Moisture Needs: Regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a good establish root system. After the mature root system is established, watering can be reduced, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly.
Mulching: Recommended to deter weeds.
Hardy Zone: 5 to 9.
